Confronting the Stigma of Mental Illness with Empowerment and Advocacy

Cheryl Gagne, a senior research and training associate at the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, explores the causes and consequences of society’s stigma toward mental illness and what college students can do to mitigate discrimination and bias. Gagne’s presentation highlights Photovoice, a research and therapy technique that allows patients with mental illness to create photo-narratives of their experiences.
